This Privacy Policy explains how EquiAware ("EquiAware," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you use the EquiAware mobile application and related websites and services (collectively, the "Application"). EquiAware is an equestrian management app designed to help horse owners track rides, manage horse health, detect falls, schedule care, and share horse care with the people they trust. By creating an account or using the Application, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Section 01
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, as well as certain information collected automatically during use:
- Account Information: Your name, email address, and password when you register. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive the name and email address Apple provides — which may be a private relay address (e.g., @privaterelay.appleid.com) if you choose to hide your email.
- Horse & Equine Data: Horse profiles (name, breed, age, colour, photos, health status), health records, care notes, and training notes you enter.
- Ride Tracking Data: GPS location, routes, distance, duration, gait, and performance metrics when you use ride tracking.
- Emergency Contact Data: Names and phone numbers of the contacts you designate to receive emergency alerts on your behalf. You are responsible for confirming that each contact has consented to receive these messages before adding them.
- Care & Schedule Records: Vet appointments, vaccination dates, farrier visits, maintenance records, and other care events you log.
- Payment Information: Subscriptions are processed by Apple through your Apple ID. We receive subscription status from Apple; we never collect or store your payment card details.
- Usage & Device Data: Device type and model, operating system and app version, device identifiers, IP address, and information about how you use and interact with the Application.
Section 02
How We Use Your Information
- Provide, operate, secure, and improve the Application and its features
- Create and manage your user account and sync your data across your devices
- Process and manage subscriptions through Apple
- Enable ride tracking and generate ride statistics and insights
- Send emergency SMS alerts to the contacts you have designated, on your behalf, when a fall is detected, a check-in is missed, or you trigger a manual SOS
- Enable the sharing features you initiate — horse collaboration and live ride-tracking links
- Deliver equine education content relevant to your activity
- Send important notices, updates, and support communications
- Diagnose technical issues, prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our Terms of Use
Section 03
Location Information
EquiAware uses GPS to determine your real-time location during ride-tracking sessions. Location data is used to:
- Track and map your ride routes, distance, pace, and gait
- Include a last-known-location link in emergency SMS alerts sent to your designated contacts
- Power live ride sharing, when you choose to share a ride link
Location is accessed only when you actively start a ride-tracking session or when an alert is triggered during a ride. Your location is shared only in these circumstances:
- Emergency alerts: your last known location is included in SMS alerts to the emergency contacts you designated.
- Live ride sharing: if you start a live-tracking link, anyone with that link can view your location while sharing is active. Links expire automatically when the ride ends or after a limited time.
- Service providers: our hosting and messaging providers process location data on our behalf solely to deliver these features.
We never sell your location data, and we never share it with advertisers. You may disable location services for EquiAware in your device Settings at any time; doing so will limit ride tracking and reduce the usefulness of emergency alerts.
Section 04
Fall Detection & Emergency Alerts
EquiAware uses your device's motion-sensor data to detect potential falls during rides. If a fall is detected and you do not respond within the in-app countdown period — or if you miss a scheduled check-in or trigger a manual SOS — the Application will send an SMS text message to your designated emergency contacts including your name, the incident type, and your last known GPS location. A follow-up "all clear" message is sent to the same contacts when you mark yourself safe.
Important
Fall detection is an assistive safety feature only. It is not a substitute for professional emergency services — always call 911 in a genuine emergency. Alert delivery is not guaranteed, and EquiAware assumes no liability for missed or delayed alerts. See our
Terms of Use for full safety disclaimers.
Emergency contact information (name and phone number) is stored securely and used only to send these alerts.
Section 05
SMS Messaging & Mobile Information
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile phone numbers and SMS opt-in/opt-out data are used solely to deliver EquiAware emergency alerts and are never sold, rented, or shared with unaffiliated third parties for marketing.
When you add an emergency contact in EquiAware, you authorize us to send SMS alerts via our messaging provider (Twilio) to that contact's phone number on your behalf in the event of a fall detection, a missed check-in, or a manual SOS. Standard message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies and depends on the events triggered by you and your device.
Recipients can opt out of EquiAware SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message; after opt-out, no further messages will be sent to that number. For help, recipients can reply HELP. Categories of personal information shared with our SMS provider are limited to: the recipient's phone number, the originating user's display name, the message body (incident type and a maps link to the last-known location), and the provider's message identifiers used for delivery tracking and abuse prevention. Our full SMS terms are available at equiaware.com/sms.
Section 06
Sharing Features You Control
EquiAware includes features that share information with people you choose:
- Horse collaboration: When you invite a collaborator to a horse, that person can see the horse's profile and its care history — including rides, appointments, maintenance records, and care notes — and can add care records of their own, which are visible to you. Invitations are sent to the email address you provide. The horse's owner can revoke a collaborator's access at any time, after which the horse's data is removed from the collaborator's account.
- Live ride links: When you share a live ride, anyone with the link can see the horse's name and photo, your live location, and ride statistics while sharing is active.
Information you share through these features is visible to the people you share it with; please choose them carefully.
Section 07
Do Third Parties Have Access to My Information?
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: Trusted vendors that operate parts of the service for us — hosting and infrastructure (Amazon Web Services), SMS delivery (Twilio), email delivery, and payment/subscription processing and sign-in (Apple). Each is bound by confidentiality obligations and authorized to use the data only to provide their service to us.
- People you choose: Emergency contacts, collaborators, and live-ride link recipients, as described above — always initiated by you.
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, subpoena, or court order, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of EquiAware, our users, or the public.
- Business Transfers: If EquiAware is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, data may transfer to the successor entity; you will be notified of any changes to data ownership or use.
Mobile phone numbers and SMS opt-in data are excluded from all sharing categories above other than the limited service-provider use described in Section 05.
Section 08
Data Security
We take the security of your information seriously. EquiAware employs physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards — including encryption in transit and at rest — to protect the data we collect and store. Access to personal information is limited to authorised personnel who require it to operate, develop, or improve the Application.
While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, no method of transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
Section 09
Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and for a reasonable period thereafter. We may retain certain data where required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention and record-keeping.
You may request deletion of your account and personal data at any time by contacting us at the email address below; we will respond within a reasonable timeframe. You may also stop all collection of information by uninstalling the Application using your device's standard uninstall process.
Section 10
Children's Privacy
EquiAware is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes their child has provided information to the Application without consent, please contact us and we will delete such information promptly.
Section 11
Your Rights & Choices
- Access, correct, or update your information through the Application
- Request deletion of your account and personal data
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Opt out of non-essential communications at any time
- Disable location access through your device settings
- Emergency-contact recipients can opt out of SMS at any time by replying STOP
California residents: Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address below.
Section 12
International Users & Consent
EquiAware is operated from the United States. If you use the Application from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, processed, and stored in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
By downloading and using EquiAware, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Application.
Section 13
Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with an updated effective date and, where appropriate, by email or in-app notification. Continued use of the Application following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
